HENDON KITCHEN
Awards:
2019 NKBA MN Design Competition, 2nd Place, Small Kitchen
This tiny kitchen in a very tiny 1920s craftsman house is home to three adults, two high-school-aged kids and three dogs. They had long since outgrown the original kitchen’s usefulness and were in desperate need of a remodel. The clients wanted a hyper functional kitchen that kept the craftsman detail.
The kitchen, being the main path to the laundry room in the basement, made working in the kitchen exceedingly difficult. Cooking and cleanup are now on one side of the kitchen, which allows for an uninterrupted cooking zone. To cater to multiple occupant heights, storage is tucked into every part of this kitchen from the space above the windows, to the magnetic steel walls for spices, to the tea pull-out under the seating area.
The quarter sawn white oak cabinetry has craftsman detail from the sink cut-outs to the mulled doors and drawers. The resulting space allows for a more functional space that fits the home perfectly.
