This 1968 home, a Ralph Rapson original, had been lovingly cared for by its owners, but after several decades, the kitchen required some extra attention. The homeowners wanted a functional, live-in-place kitchen with ample storage and to stay true to Ralph Rapson’s vision for the home.
The walls were cut back to the bottom of the upper cabinets, which allows an open view through the kitchen. A built-in cabinet was thoughtfully designed to house the client’s mail station, wine storage, and audio equipment, while leaving ample room for pottery display.
Slab doors and drawers in cherry add interest and warmth, and the original globe light hanging in the center of the space is mimicked by smaller globes lighting the galley. The waterfall countertop provides the perfect mid-century feel, resulting in a kitchen that provides plenty of functionality and stays true to Rapson’s vision.
