THE PILLSBURY CASTLE

Photography by Spacecrafting

The historic Pillsbury Mansion was built in 1903 by Alfred F. Pillsbury, son of the co-founder of Pillsbury Flour Milling Company. Over time, the home has lived many lives; most recently, it was restored as a private residence for the 2024 ASID MN Design Home.

The kitchen and scullery are located in what used to be an exterior porch. Flooded with light and constructed almost entirely of rock-faced Platteville limestone, the design was approached with the same grandeur as the turn-of-the-century home.

Traditional details are found in the rich oak and green-gray cabinetry.  Luxurious marble countertops, solid brass hardware, and a fumed brass hood surround elevate the design and blend seamlessly with an enviable suite of Gaggenau appliances.

Decorative details complete the kitchen and scullery beautifully. A grouping of hand-gilded antique mirrors reflect the light-filled room, mercury pendants cast a warm, ethereal glow, and finally, a nod to Alfred Pillsbury’s love of Asian art is found in an Asian-inspired ceiling motif.

This truly unique residence is poised for its next chapter.
